8th November 2014 - UD win over Bernard Hopkins
Known as 'Krusher', Sergey Kovalev is a Russian-born, American-based light-heavyweight fighter.
He won the WBO World Light-Heavyweight Championship in 2013 against Nathan Cleverly and the WBA Super World and IBF World Light-Heavyweight titles against Bernard Hopkins in 2014.
A decorated amateur
Kovalev begun boxing at the tender age of 11 and made his debut in the Russian Boxing Junior Championship in 1997, winning gold in the middleweight juniors division. A year later he competed with the seniors and reached the final and a year after that, won the final fight. He competed for Russia at the European Championships.
The Russian boasts an impressive amateur record, winning 195-18 before turning professional in 2009 at the age of 26.
He has said that he left the national team because of the tense competition between himself and Mattt Korobov and Artur Beterbiev.
Kovalev's world title glory
In 2013 Kovalev beat Nathan Cleverly with an impressive round four technical knockout in the reigning champion's home country of Wales.
Cleverly walked into the ring unbeaten at 26(12)-0 and left without his zero or his belt. Kovalev boasted a 21(19)-0 record and his knockout propensity was noted by the Welshman, who was cautious from the first round.
A cool and confident Kovalev was dominant and eventually delivered a crushing TKO in the fourth round that helped him live up to his nickname.
'Krusher' Kovalev v 'The Alien' Hopkins
In November 2014, Kovalev took on the legendary Bernard Hopkins in a unification bout in New Jersey.
The fight was dominated by Kovalev, who knocked down Hopkins in the very first round and went on to win by unanimous decision on the judges' scorecards.
Russia v Canada - Kovalev v Pascal
Kovalev begun the fight as he did so in previous victories, dominant and aggresive.
'The Krusher' knocked his opponent down in the third round and maintained control over the fight until he wobbled Pascal sufficiently in the eighth for a TKO from the referee.
