The unbeaten Danny 'Swift' Garcia

Unbeaten at 30 fights into his career, Danny Garcia is another fighter who has made a big splash in the light-welterweight division.

Not commonly known for his knockouts, Garcia is a punch-and-move fighter who uses strong defensive skills to out-box his opponents.

He has remained unbeaten since his pro debut in 2007, defending his zero against tough customers such as Lucas Matthysse, Mauricio Herrera, Rod Salka and Lamont Peterson.

Garcia's Puerto Rican heritage

The Puerto Rican who was born in Philidelphia, Garcia is proud of his heritage and plans to be the "next big Puerto Rican fighter."

His father introduced him to the sport of boxing at 10-years-old and he has fought ever since, reporting to his father, Angel Garcia, as head trainer.

A high class level of opponents

In March 2012, Garcia announced himself to the world stage when he beat gritty Mexican veteran Erik Morales to win the vacant WBC World Light-Welterweight title with a convincing 12-round decision.

Four months later the fighter from Philli took on an Amir Khan who had just come off of a loss to Lamont Peterson and won the fight by a round four TKO.

Soon after he fought Erik Morales in a rematch and this time floored the fighter, again in the fourth round.

Garcia continued his unbeaten run against Zab Judah with a unanimous decision over twelve rounds in 2013. This was followed some months later with another decision victory against the tough banger Lucas Matthysse and then another points win against Maurice Herrera in March 2014.

In the August of 2014 Garcia took on the 'Lightning Rod' from Bunola, Rod Salka. The fight was over quickly, Garcia winning by knockout in the second round.

On April 11, 2015 Garcia fought Lamont Peterson in Brooklyn, New York. He won the twelve rounder by a points decision.

Move up to Welterweight

Garcia defeated Robert Guerrero for the vacant WBC World Welterweight Title on Saturday 23 January 2016 live on BoxNation with a unanimous points victory.

A routine first defence of his new belt against Samuel Vargas followed, and 'Swift' earned a TKO victory to set up a huge unification clash in 2017.

Unification with Thurman

In October it was announced that Garcia would take on heavy-hitting WBA Welterweight boss Keith Thurman. The match-up is one of the best that could be made in boxing and looks set to be one of the most thrilling fights of 2017.
